Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. (株式会社スクウェア・エニックス・ホールディングス Kabushiki-gaisha Sukuwea Enikkusu Hōrudingusu?) is a Japanese video game developer, publisher, and distribution company. It was formed as the result of an April 1, 2003, merger between two companies: Square and Enix.
They are best known as the creator of several multi-million dollar gaming franchises including Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Chrono, Kingdom Hearts, Mana, SaGa, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Just Cause, and Nier. Outside of gaming, Square Enix has also been known as the publisher and developer of many popular manga and anime series, including Fullmetal Alchemist, Black Butler, Soul Eater and Durarara!!
